After seeing the post about the aurora trout, I'm wondering if anyone here has caught a blue walleye. My dad caught one on a fishing trip back in the early 80's. My dad and the guys that he was fishing with called the MNR to make sure it was a blue walleye, but while they were waiting they guy who was cleaning fish cleaned that fish, so all my dad had now is the hat for catching a blue.

I have landed a couple in the Havlock area at Peck's camp. Cool looiking things. the local bait shop told me that they only grow to about 3-4lbs max. It is a mutation in the genes.

That's what my dad told me, he caught his at Lake Nippissing, it weighed in at about 2 lbs. From what I hear Ministry of Natural Resources and their Quebec counter part want to be made aware of catching the Blue, as they went extinct from their native habitat around the Niagra river and Lakes Erie and Ontario.

Mike, There is are tons of Blue walleye on the quebec side. We had a discussion on the topic a while back. I don't have time to look for the tread but look back. Biologists determend that there is no difference in between a blue or reg eye. apperently

We get blues every year in the north on Quebec side. There is no difference between the gold and blue...except for the coloration, probably due to the place they live, or what they eat....Very nice do with that blue robe.....There is a Black Walleye, many difference from the Gold in that case....95% of all catches in St-Laurent River pass Montreal are all Black Walleyes....

My 2 cents....

We caught a blue walleye in Nippissing in 2002....fell into the slot, threw her back.

I understand they are relatively common there....

My Dad caught one in the Ottawa last fall. A friend of mine takes a trip to DeMoins every year and the catch quite a few, says they turn the cooler blue with slime.

If its rare eat it
if its big eat it

If it's blue, eat it too..
If it's chrome, bring it home..
If it's black, down the hatch..
If it's red, leave the head...
If it's brown, suck it down

I have had the pleasure of a few trips for these fellas. A buddy of mine had a hunt camp in Northern Quebec that we used to go to about 10 years ago.

I caught a small one at Des Chenes Rapids this summer (aprox 11") It had brilliant aqua to sky blue flash to it. The colour didn't show up in the pic though. It's was released.

I had a brother-in-law catch one north of timmins in a remote bush-whacker lakeback in the late 80's. We all caught many gold coloured ones, then he nailed the blue one.
I have a picture somewhere, anybody want me to hunt it up?
It was a good sized fish too, had to be around the 4-5 lb range.

CDream, I would like to see a pic of her. I have yet to see one alive.

OK, I dug this out, pic quality is not that good, taken in 1990 with a snap camera, then scanned in. Here it is anyway, believe me, it was blue. Blue fin coloration, blueish belly and blue stripes around the head, never seen one since. This is not me by the way, I am much better looking than this clown.
