hey . i was flipping through some internet ice fishing pages when i came across this new product STRUCTURE ON A STRING. "structure on a string gives fisherman the advantage of having structureanytime and any place desired.the structure on a string uses artificial foliage which is attached to a 40 foot plastic cord.a foam bobber keeps it in a verticle position and allows it to be adjusted to the desired depth."
check it out . i dont know if its a gimmic or not but it sure looks neet.

I've also heard talk on other sites about dropping milk crates and PVC stars like the ones below into areas to attract crappies and other fish. There's been much talk about MNR/DEC regulations concerning this practice and whether or not PVC would pollute the environment.
The premise behind using these PVC stars is instant cover, and a place for algae to grow thus attracting fish, as well as it being snag-free and too stealthy to be picked up on sonar (I guess so no one else would be able to find your newly created honey hole).
I'd still hate to get my prop caught in one though!

Man made structure

In order to be successful in drawing fish, man-made structure needs to be placed in waters that have little or no
natural structure.
With only one or two exceptions, all the lakes and rivers I've fished in Ontario have had plenty of natural structure and cover.
Brushpiles and other artificial cover have been used successfully in many U.S. waters for generations, usually for crappie (as Bucketmouth said), and also for bass. But Americans also have a lot of waters that are completely devoid of natural cover. Southern anglers have it down to a science.
The couple of times over the years I've been involved with artificial structure (tree plantings) over the years were not worth the effort.
There is
one lake I would love to try some out on, though- if it were practical and legal.

Here on Long Point Bay we have a huge artifical structure...the tire reef. It's made up of 1000's off old tires straped together. It was intended as a reef for fish and I've been meaning to snorkel it for years. It'sin about 17 fow.
I've got a few smallies there, but it's my go to place for the kids. It is home to the biggest school of rockbass on the planet.

Haha yeah got that right Markus - some of the biggest rockies I've ever seen too!
On the little lake I fish most often, some people chucked christmas trees out there with bricks attached during the winter, all in one spot. It kind of perplexed me that they would do that since I've never seen another boat out fishing the lake besides the very odd canoe. Anyway, I'm glad they did - I've caught plenty of nice largemouth off of it - not to mention hundreds of crappies!
