It is time to start planning our annual spring quebec week long fishing trip and are considering somewhere new and would like some help recommendations.

We are a group of 4 with own boats(14-16 footers with 30hp), would like a housekeeping cabin/cottage to keep price reasonable. Distance from ottawa would ideally be no more that 7-8 hours.

We typically would like to be able to catch walleye for shore lunch(quantity is more important than size) but we would like to have a realistic chance at some large pike as that is our species of choice.

Lake trout and speckles are also another option.

We usually go the second week of the season and this year this happens to be the 28th of may.

I have heard great things about the Gouin reservoir but would like some other choices. The Gouin seems to be a little pricey..are there any other ways to fish the gouin??

We have an outfitter tent and all camping supplies so camping somewhere remote is not out of the question.

Hey Joe,

Funny you should mention the Gouin... That's what my recommendation was going to be.

The lake is filled with eyes and large pike and if you can find some streams there's a lot of brookies to boot.

The Gouin now has a special permit you have to buy if you're fishing on it but you can always camp on a multitude of islands or sand bars but you have to know the area a little to find a private launch.

There are some relatively cheap places on the Gouin. I have gone up to Achimac but normally camp up there.

There's also up in Temiscamingue on Hunter's lake, there's Kipawa....

Up towards Clova and Senneterre you can think of Lac Descelles different type of fishing as there's some rapids in some places but the walleye fishing is exceptionnal and there are some huge pike.

I sugest you take the time to go to Montréal and talk directly to Outfitter there, you have them all in one floor and can compair price and so on.

Most of them have scrapbook of picture of their camp,the lake and overview of the instalation,the fish caught (check if picture are not old picture).

The best part is that you can wheel and deal them right there on the spot.

You could save some money and avoid disapointment.

Well worth it,if you ask me!
