FOR LAKETROUT RE; NIPIGON

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

FOR LAKETROUT RE; NIPIGON

Post by Jigs »

Laketrout;

Not too long ago I believe you posted an inquiry into Lake Nipigon boat launches. You may not want to go there.

Check out the latest Ontario out of doors under ANGLER AND HUNTER HOTLINE: Regs; re "coaster brook trout"...........?? whatever they are.

"Effective this year the MNR blanketed both Lake Superior and Lake Nipigon fishing divisions with a minimum size limit of 22 inches and a catch and possession limit of one brook trout under a sport fishing licence."

Unless "coaster" brookies are different species, I read that to mean all brook trout. 22 inches is a BIG trout. How many of the are you going to catch?
Possession limit of ONE.......

Is the population of brook trout threatened up there or has the MNR gone off the rails ??

:shock: Jigs.

I wouldn't mind knowing about this either. Muskiemagnet and I are hoping to plan an outing there, specifically for big brookies.

Yes I'm aware of the new regs and applaud the MNR for acting to protect the Trout in Nipigon.
The Lake Trout have special regs also.
In todays world with the amount of fish farms ect. there is no need to keep a fish,a picture is all thats needed,and the memories!
Thanks for the info Jigs
