Fish-Hawk.Net

My father was thinking of us hitting Sharbot lake for the walleye / pike opener in May. I have fished Sharbot before, but only for Lake Trout. I took a look at the map here on Fish-Hawk and it looks like there are a few good spots that hold walleye. So my question, other than the spots highlighted on the map, is there anywhere else I should check out. As well, has anybody consistently caught walleye in Sharbot? Just trying to figure out what to expect.

I think I'd find another place to go for pike/walleye opener. In the same area you might want to look at Bob's Lake, Big Gull or Crotch. I have some friends from up that way and I've never heard anything about walleye in Sharbot lake from them. Twenty-five years ago it had decent laker fishing.

Im with ganman, I live not to far away (sydneham) make it clear not from sharbot lake :D and I havnt heard of too many walleye comin out of there. I would also recommend Bobs lake although I have never fished it for walleye people rave about it all the time.

I fish the lake often...and yes it has walleye. You should be able to limit out with a little work. The water is clear and cold so deep three ways (18-35ft) on the humps will produce eyes. The walleye are in the same areas that you get the lakers in mid summer, they are just up a little higher in the water column and relate to all of the humps that have schools of baitfish crusing around. The locals will be no help, they never catch walleye or lakers on the lake...but I seem to see lots of nets over the side of thier boats all spring and summer ...oh must be bass they are getting on the downriggers

RRC, I find there are more Walleye on the East portion of the lake. Go into the town fish left of the bridge. That is my experience anyway

18-35 feet deep off mid lake humps on opening day and should have no problem limiting out with a little work? Never would have guessed but then most people I see on an inland walleye lake scratch and claw just to get a few fish. Anything but a sure thing.

Find the forage and the walleyes will be near...covering water will also help. Sharbot has a bucket load of forage...so you will have to work to find the hungry ones...heh heee!

Here is a Sharbot sonar shot from my fishing logs - last august when I was coming off a 30ft hump into 80+ft of water. Lots of forage

Hey Ganman... you are correct on that statement. That is why I love to hunt for walleye, you know they are there...but you also know you may not catch any.

I guess the only way to find out is to give it a try. We have caught lakers most times when we hunt for them on Sharbot.

guess rrc will have to follow the old man with the boat hehehehe just kidding son .... but some lads my cousin knows have in fact caught walleye early in the spring at sharbot lake ..... no other details as to where or how .... but working the structures .... trolling to cover as much area as possible and we should find how deep they are ..... if not ill throw my son overboard kidding again he's bigger than me .....
