Fish roe

Hi all,
It's been a long time since my last visit here (not enough time... even to go fishing!!!)....
Last weekend however, I went fishing and got 5 nice perch, all females, all with plump roe bags. A friend of mine, horified to see I was about to throw the roe away asked me to at least try to cook them... I made my little search on internet and only found recipes for a few species (salmon, trout, sturgeon...) but nothing on perch or any other of the species I usualy get around here... so I improvised and simply place the eggs in brine after washing them carefully... but I am not sure at all about this experiment.
Do any of you have any experience with fish roe? Is perch roe edible?
Cheers
