Has anyone done any fishing from shore around Lemieux Island here in Ottawa. It is the filtration plant site on the Ottawa River slightly east of Parkdale and Ottawa River Parkway.

I have tried my luck a couple of times both from the shore and from the island. Fast water... never caught anything. Some smallies were caught by others but I couldn`t get them to look at what I was throwing at them. Good luck... very fast water so as per usual... be careful. I would not go on the ice for sure.

Thanks Seaweed, I should have clarified that I was only talking about open water fishing. I agree, the ice would not be safe around there, way too much current to make the ice trustworthy.

Dude, you can't ice fish there i'm sure you know the current is way to strong. I walk my dog there and have wet a line a half doz. times w/ no great results. I do know that you can fish for cats there I've caught a few myself along w/ laker taker and moosebunk when he was down. After dark they turn on good. Lt got a jumbo there one night.

Hey LarryS,

Well having worked there a for quite a few years! I've had a few opportunities to throw some baits around! For the most part it's all Smallies with the odd Pike in the mix!

I'd bet there's some great Wallie action there somewhere, just likely not from shore!

Big Stick hit it on the head! The curent there is wild :!:  I wouldn't recommend ice fishing there if that's what you're contemplating :!:

I've waded out just above Lemiuex and had pretty good luck for smallmouth. You can wade to the first small island in the summer and fish the deeper water on the north side. Don't be surprised if you startle naked men on the northside of the island. Apparently the local gay population favors this area for midsummer fun in the sun. Not that there's anything wrong with that except the sick feeling in the pit of my stomach.
