I've heard amazing things about this new line plastic of baits, and have purchased a few packages already for this coming open water season. They say you don't even have to move the lure...the fish will just eat it (it's digestible). I guess these baits were already available last summer........ but it takes a guy as slow as me awhile to catch on to things . I hope they are as good as advertised....Berkely sure knew what they were doing when they came out with "Powerbait" lures, so I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt. I'd like to "test" these new plastics out by letting my young nephew try using them with just a hook and bobber....Anyone have luck with "GULP!" ?

Ive never tried them although I have a feew packs. I dont really know why I havnt tried them but I have heard all good about them.

I have tried Gulp in the past, but I haven't found them any better then a regular PowerBait. I sometimes prefer to buy other plastics because they last longer. Gulp can go bad pretty easy if you accidently leave a package open, or put a used Gulp bait back in the bag.

But I am sure if you rig them up an effective way they will produce. My "big" derby winner at the St. Lawrence Fish-Hawk outing was caught on a Gulp Bait. I rigged it wacky just like a senko.

I can't remember if these yellow minnows where gulp or yum, but boy-o-boy the smallies loved them on this day! Caught 80 some that morning and they gabbed that bait and wouldn't let go!



I hardly used live bait last year and I gained a ton of confidence in the gulp and yum baits.

I wish i could catch smallies at hydro LOL!! Markus yu can throw anything at them there and get fish doesint matter what kind of jig it is. Tubes are my fav bait there for big smallies.

I like to back troll spinner rigs and bottom bouncer combo's in the spring for Hay Bay walleye. Unfortunately the small pesky perch decimate those dew worms. I've gone through several dozen in a day. I had tried natural coloured plastic worms with mixed success but last year gave the gulp natural a whirl and was pleasantly surprised. The pesky perch could nibble all they want without tearing the worm apart until some nice pan sized walleye tried the taste test.

The natural coloured grubs have worked extremely well for bluegill, perch and crappie under the ice.

Markus, I'm pretty sure that's a "GULP!" bait. I think I got the same one in a freebie pack when I responded to a promo offer last year. I remember when you posted that thread and those pics. I was flabbergasted at the # of smallies you pulled out that day. More than I might get in a whole season.

About the "GULP!" baits: I agree with Snag. I think they work, for sure, but no better than PowerBaits, of which I'm a big fan. The "GULP!" are made up of some digestible matter, whereas I think the PowerBaits are just impregnated with scent/flavor -- I could be wrong here. But the "GULP!" baits can get slimy; and if you leave them out, dried up like a prune.

Hydro is a fun spot, even my 5 year old daughter pounds them there.

And, you're right Sleded, tubes work, your majical tubes caught you 8 during your visit there last fall.

Yeah I've had days where I caught 80 too on jigging spoons/plastics/ and other days where I only get 5 or 6, depends how much she's pumping out there and the conditions, just like anywhere else.

I find stuff with the curly tails doesnt produce as well on most days. A straight, narrow profile is more productive. I can't wait to try dropshotting a senko there this year.

ya know Rich, i tried senkos there last fall and oddly enough they didn't produce that many fish. I don't think their a good "current" bait. Switched back to tubes and they responded.

I tried these baits and wasn't impressed because they shrink like crazy, and you can't get them off the hook afterward. I was using the sinking minnow , they worked great but even in the package after a while they harden and shrivel.

I liked the old school powerbait better!

Interesting about the senkos. I have some Storm dropshot minnows and they worked wonders there though, I just havent been able to find them ever since I bought the first pack.

Back to Gulps, I have never had much luck with them myself and found their drying out to be annoying. I got a couple using them as spinnerbait trailers, and I think I got one once on the grub.. a largemouth from a pond.

I like to use a white jighead with a white and black shad at the hydro. It's a sure thing for the whitebass when their in there.

I too have heard good things about "Gulp" down here in Ohio but have never used them. I like to fish for the walleye on the Montreal river and sometimes they'll only take a leech on a jig or bottom bouncer. Leeches are expensive when your going thru a few dozen a day. I saw the "Gulp" leech and I got a few packs plus some "Power Pro" leeches. Can hardly wait to try them out.

Hey Snag,

I don't think it was the Gulp that got you that big winner......I think it was the skipper who took you to all the right places.

I tried gulp and found that not only did they not produce but they don't even get a nibble where i fish. Yum Shakin worms on the other hand work excepionally well. Power baits or baits smeared with power gell also work really well. But those gulps I don't know. Regards Snidley
