the last two bites I have had the fish just sucked it in it's mouth and would not take. Had I hooked minnow behind the spine I think it would have been a differant story though. Perhaps I coulda waited longer than 5 minutes for it to take it.

Our brook trout season doesn't open in these parts til mid April. I'm dying to go too! You guys talking about it has really got me anxious to hit the creeks.

The creeks up here are bone dry with fish until May

And they are spooky little buggers.
Sct- I had the same problem SUN. the brookies were just head butting the minnows and not actually taking them

Grey Bruce area opens last Sat in May. Same as here.
I haven't got a brookie over 12 inches down here yet. I'm actually planning a trip to Nipigon for lakers this summer and I'm hoping to find a few brookies there too.

Don't you mean last Saturday in April? From Div 9,10 (Kingston area)on west the traditional trout opener is the last sat in April.
In the eastern Ontario where there are no naturalized rainbow (spring spawners) so trout season opens Jan 1. that is why it's closed Sept 30 to protect fall spawning brookies.

Sorry! I mistyped May in there! Your right it is April. I think I said April above, then mistyped May in FRH response.
Thanks for catching that Ganman.
