Do we need a seperate forum for boating?

Yes I do see a connection between fishing and boating but somehow I think it would be easier and cleaner if we had a seperate forum section for fishing and another for boats and boating.

This forum is called "Fishing Talk" but a large number of topics are boat specific so shouldn't we have a "Boat Talk" forum?

So I am asking how everyone else feels and perhaps if majority rules.... :D

IMO....we have too many forums as is.....

It's natural at this time of year to have alot of boat talk goin on as guys pull em out of storage and get ready for spring.....

110% agree with RJ on this...

I've been on sites before with 15-25 forums for different topics and the sad truth is that you miss a heck of a lot that you would normally read.

I think we've found here that topics are very seasonal in our fishing talk forum... boats, conservation, fishing results, pictures... everything get's covered in one convenient spot.

Wit hthe addition of the great lakes forums for specific results and topics relating to that area i think we're covering all bases as is.

I'm kind of on the fence with this one.

Certainly boating gets very seasonal particularly in the spring and fall.
Does it merrit it's own forum, perhaps not.

But we've got a few forums on here that have not moved in a lllooonnnggg time.

All things being equal, and this is not a jab at the quality of posters on this site, but I find I get great boating info on a couple of other specific sites.

Keep'er all in one is my vote.

A number of us have questions about our boats and how others set them up for different types of fishing.

Fishn' & Boatn' ..... Gotta luv it :P

Here's hoping the weather stays dry..... my boats in water but the fields too muddy for the van to yank it out :( :( :(

I like that you're always thinking, Mr. J.!! :D

However, I have to say I'm with RJ on this one. Let's keep it in the Fishing Talk forum, as I, too, think things are getting a little cluttered -- or maybe overwhelming is a better word -- with too many different forums to keep up with.

I think it's fair to say that boating and fishing go hand in hand.

You really have to appreciate that we are able to express our thoughts around here without being jumped upon and that speaks of the quality of people who call this place their own :D

Hmm guess there's a lesson eh! Glad to see people voted.

It's the thinking that gets me into trouble all of the time.

Exactly Mr. J. i think we all hope we can express our own opinions without being jumped on and i know for a fact that both bobber and fish-hawk would love to have a site where zero moderation is required. Unfortunatly there always those that step out of line sometimes accidentally when debates get heated.

I think the non-fishing forum was intended for things like birthday announcments, jokes, general chat, and basically anything else off-topic.

One thing that is trying to be addressed is how to capture some of the great information found on the messageboard that over time drops into pages no one ever reads anymore.

We've had some great topics on trolling, crankbait selection, boat mods, baitcaster selection, planner boards etc... and having a kind of reference library is what the fishing tips section is trying to achieve. Identifying those threads that can be moved there can be tricky though.

Some forums are fairly quiet the hawkey-talk one well.. it's hard to talk about hockey when there hasn't been any but in a regular season it can get busy in there too.... perhaps some of the outbursts we've had this winter on the fishing forum was due to a lack of hockey talk where people could vent.... i mean those leafs fans have to take it out on someone

Agreed. I'd like to lose community, great lakes, funny stories, hockey and non-fishing and just have them all back in Fishing. Bobbing around throughout the forums sucks in my opinion.

Keep, buy sell trade, derby, upcoming events, and have fishing as the fourth. Four, that's all we need. Unless having so many has something to do with how the site is managed and operates. :?

one........separate.........many.........few..........

You got a point there Moosebunk; but, I would like to keep Great Lakes separate.

This site seems to target mostly from upper Ottawa Valley all the way to St. Lawrence down to Que. border. That's nice. Fairly local. I'm sure it wasen't planned that way, just the demographics.

I can plod through the GL thread if I want to read about Simcoe or Erie. Mostly I don't, cause it doesn't relate to what I do..............NOT saying it's not good or worthwhile and not trying to start a shxtstorm, just my opinion.

Fish on :?: :?:

As for myself, i just can't follow the discussions here... there is just too much going on so anything that would help me sorting the threads out would be good.
