Float Tubes
Huh - perfectly timed thread for me, as I am interested in either getting a canoe, kayak or pontoon boat to fish in this summer.
My canoe challenge is that the one we have at the cottage, (16 foot Prospector) is a great paddling boat it is very tippy, and probably a bit heavy for me to portage if needed on my own for any distance - also cost
I like the kayaks - especially the version that was identified - but again not sure about stability or carrying - cost as well
There is a pontoon boat at LeBarons and Cabelas that comes with a backpack

I like this - as my guess is they are stable (although i can see how staying in the same spot would be tough) - although wouldn't an anchor solve that?
I also think this would be easier to carry in on my own to places - I hope to do more fishing in the Haliburton Forest area this year, solo
Cheers

Gordy28,
Are you going to fish in lakes most of the time or do you want something better suited to rivers? If you're in lakes, a lighter "boat" makes better sense particularly if you have to portage.
There is a photo of me in my tube near the beginning of this thread. This style is fantastic for most lake situations. It also weighs a whole lot less than does the 48 lb pontoon....especially after a 1 or 2 km hike.
BTW - I'm booked in Haliburton Forest Preserve for the May long weekend. Looking for some large specks and even lakers on the fly!

Gordy,
check this out: http://www.waterskeeter.com/enlarge/lg_riverlite.jpg
great little boat, weighs 48 lbs. very stable and easy to maneuver.
It fits in a bag smaller than a hockey bag.

Great - thanks for the info - I looked at your site earlier and the boats look great
Fishboy - I would say I plan to primarily fish lakes, so the float tub looks interesting - however since I spin or baitcast primarily, I am not sure that a float tube gets me high enough out of the water (I would love to get something where standing is an option)
I will have to follow up with you about the Haliburton Forest - I have only fished there once, and we primarily targeted bass - we fished Black lake with so so results. However its only 25 minutes away from my brothers cottage so I plan on hitting it more this year - and probably broadening my target species - although I gotta admit - small mouth are my favourite species to catch
Cheers

Gordy,
I have a "Chetco" for myself, has a platform on front to stand and cast, sweet little outfit, I love it.

Here is a link to Dave scadden's site. He is a pioneer in the world of float tubes and pontoon boats. The model that I have is called an escalade but its no longer in production
The escalade is a framless design so it packs up nice and compact and only weighs in at 18lbs! I'll try and find some pics to post up as soon as I get a chance.
Found a link for the escaladehttp://www.flyfishingconnection.com/1re ... alade.html
I also found a link for one of Daves higher end boatshttp://www.flyfishingconnection.com/1re ... gator.html
I finally found Dave's new site here is the linkhttp://www.northforkoutdoors.com/homepagedirectory.html He has some new models out that are really nice!
