Anyone tried for SM bass on the Mississipi? I cross it on my way to and from work and thought that it looked pretty good in some of the faster moving areas. The Rideau produced lots of action for me on the opener but the size left a bit to be desired.
I hit the Miss whenever I can. Depending on where on the Mississippi you are I'd say that on averge the SM run about 4" larger than what you'd be catching on the Rideau (from Manotick to Ottawa)
LM bass are starting to move into the Mississippi if that means anything. Appleton area is still good but not as good as it used to be. I'm told that if you have a motorboat, it is still good further down stream if you find the spots. Time of day is also important.
I fished SM on the Mississipi this weekend and caught a few nice ones. Top water lures were hitting pretty got and sure are lots of fun.
I noticed that all the bass I caught have black spots on the fins. Is that worm eggs? Thats what i`ve been told. So if the all have worms do some people still eat them? I let all of them go just incase. I figured I would inform myself before I eat them. Im from northern ontario and I`ve never seen this up the. Maybe because of the colder water.
Thanks for the link Todd. it was a good read and i now know what those blacks spots are...i thought they wew a parasite of some sort but wasn't sure if they were a threat to human health.
Last weekend the wife and I hit one of our favorite Mississippi R. spots. Here is her best of the day. Mine unfortunately got off before I could take it's picture. LOL
