Old Forge NY trout fishing

Post by ganman »

I spent the past few days in the Adirondacks with my wife. The weather was beautiful.

My favourite places in the ADK's are just about anyplace but Lake Placid or Lake George. I particularly like the sleepy little villages in the middle of the park like Long Lake, Blue Mountain Lake and Old Forge. No name rivers in this area but many headwater streams and backwoods trout ponds.

Tuesday morning early I hooked up with a friend from the Old Forge area. We fished a pond a few miles from town in his old fashioned Adirondack guide boat.

Nothing fancy about the fishing. He rowed us around slowly tight to shore and we dragged Micky Finns, marabou Black Ghost and some big buggy looking concoctions that may have been dragon fly nymphs. About every half hour more or less one of us would hook into a trout. We caught about 6 or 7 between 11 and 15 inches and then it got real bright and warm.
