The Algonkin club sounds like a good club. I only wish it were a little nearer to me. I joined the Ottawa Fly Fishing club when I first moved to Ottawa and I never felt welcome there and was mostly ignored.

Woolly,

How long ago was that? I've been a member for 4 years and I cannot say that I've ever had that feeling.

Unless there is more than one Ottawa Fly Fishing club, my experience has been quite the opposite. I showed up as a vistor to almost all of the OFFS Tue night fishes in the summer as an FF newbie and was welcomed without hesitation. As a result, I joined the OFFS in Sept. and since then I have met many more great people, learned how to tie flies and been introduced to float tubing.

Salar,

Is Mike going to be setting up shop regularly on your tying nights now?

Hi Todd,

Mike tries to be there once a month (usually our fly tying night), weather permitting.

Paul,

How many tiers typically come out for your tying nights? It's a bit of drive, but I might come up for one of the tying sessions sometime.

Cheers,
Todd

Todd,

Typically we have 20-25 tiers. Our last tying night we had 22 tiers, which was a surprise since it was still hunting season.

You're more than welcome to join us for a tying night. Our calendar of events is available here:

http://www.algonkinflyfishers.com/calendar.html

Currently Mike is planning on being at the following meetings (weather permitting): November 29, December 19, January 24, February 21.

Cheers,

Paul (Salar)

I don't really want to bad mouth the club (not my intent), but the Ottawa Fly Fishers club just didn't work out for me. I had joined in September 2002.

Woolly Bugger,

Ahhh...I think that was a year before I joined. In some ways I could probably see why you felt that way. In any case the society has evolved quite a bit since the first year I joined, for the better I like to think. The meeting speakers/topics are posted in the forum so if you ever want to drop in to see if it has changed to your liking feel free to attend.

Cheers,
Todd
