I'm thinking of giving Blakeney (Mississippi R.) a try this Saturday (afternoon) if anyone else is interested in getting out to wet a fly.
Cheers,
Todd
Getting out Saturday (Aug 23rd)
Well northernfly and myself to get out this evening but do to the late start we decided to hit Long Island rather than Blakeney. The water level is starting to go down but it's still about 12" above normal for this time of year.
The evening started off slow but as we moved down towards the flats things picked up considerably. I'd say the smallies were ranging from 6-13" and it was obvious that they were actively feeding...nice and fat. There was also a great Hex hatch with lots of spinner activity that brought a few fish to the surface but not as many as I would have thought. In any case a great evening with lots of fish.
Best flies for the evening were a heavy beadhead woolly bugger and a Mississippi Mermaid.
