Ottawa Valley Kayak Fishing Expedition

Post by Salar »

Hi Everyone,

Wongrs, Gwright, myself, and a friend went in search of some hard fighting river smallmouth up in the Ottawa Valley yesterday. Kayaks were our watercraft for the day. Conditions were excellent with water levels being perfect and weather being stable. Between the four of us we landed well over 100 bass. We all hooked into some good sized ones too. Those river smallies didn’t disappoint and fought very hard. Top flies for me on the day were the JJ Special and the Chili Pepper.

Here are some photos from the day:

I’m now convinced I need to get a kayak. It was a perfect watercraft for this type of trip. They’re stable, take little effort to paddle, draw very little water, and can take the abuse on the rocks. I’ve done a similar trip in my pontoon boat and I was exhausted by the end of the day. A pontoon boat is great for short distances but not practical for long distances and rapids.

Cheers,

Salar

I have always wanted to take the Mad River into some rapids, that thing is so fun in wavy water. Looked like a great day, I see you took the Search 15 Greg, nicely done 8)

The yaks were a lot of fun in the rapids. The 12 foot length of the Mad River Synergy made it easy to handle and turn.

The one disadvantage to the Synergy is that it's not self draining.

((((The one disadvantage to the Synergy is that it's not self draining.)))))(salar)

actualy this is what i like about it...me myslef dont like scupper plugs.

true its good in high waves area and high current..but hey.look that video..and see what kind off water he is in.

and ever saw scupper plugs in canoe and they do white water all the time..so i can manage a bit off water in a kayak.

the one that i have that as the scupper plug..i plug them.

so me..i like wen there none.

even if it those come to be full off water still no prob. and that is why we got pump and sponge and pot for..plus kayak is a water sport.. 8) .

i like that synergy because its deap....got lot off storage...like the 12 because its short...turn on dime.

good pict salar.

I definitely liked the short length for the type of water we were on. It made it easy to maneuver in the current. Having fished out of both the Synergy 12 and Search 13 my preference would be for the Search. Both are great boats but I liked the scupper holes for drainage and the dry storage up front on the Search. One other boat I'd like to try sometime would be a Wilderness Tarpon 12.

a kayak is like a pair off shoes.

everyone have there own..choice and feel better in a model more then onother.

that is why the best thing is to try the most you can before gething one.

me still not sher what will be my next one.

mabe there wont be...cause i hate to see them dry in the backward and that is what happen wen you got a couple. .

ans still got the canoes that i like a lot to...that did not went in water this year.. :? .

and still have skin on frame kayak in mind as my project.

again try the most you can.

you can try mine anytime. :) ..just have to join me..
