Fly Fishing Stores in the Ottawa Area

Post by HereMyGo »

Dist,

I'm sure this will be a very repetitive question that is seen on these boards, and I did a bit of trolling with the search function but nothing condensed like I am looking for.

I am new to the area, and have found Float Paddle and Fly as it's in a very good location for me from work. However, I am curious as to whether or not there are other Fly Fishing oriented stores in the Ottawa area that some you frequent?

Maybe not solely Fly Fishing gear, but stores that do maintain some inventory. Also wondering which stores in the area sell float tubes?

Any response is greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
Sean.

there's green drake outfitters. they are fly fishing exclusive. there's also le baron which is mainly a conventional fishing store but they do have some limited fly tying stuff and gear. they also sell float tubes and camping gear. they are more of a canadian tire type of fishing store.

of the ones i've been to, i prefer float paddle and fly. they've just started up several weeks ago and will be bringing in more gear and tying materials. they are keen to bring in whatever stuff you want. just request it from any of the store owners (such as Greg, Debbie or Gilles). for the most part, they'd be happy to bring gear in for you.

as for floats, do you mean strike indicators or guided float trips? float paddle and fly has rental watercraft (pontoons and kayaks) and they can probably arrange for a guided float trip with some of the local experts. if you mean strike indicators, they should have those at every store (perhaps not le baron).

hope this helps! where did you move from? got any wicked fish pictures to share from your home town?

HereMyGo,

Outdoor stores that offer fly fishing gear:
Sport Action
Le Baron

Fly shops:
Orvis Green Drake Outfitters
Mike's Flyshop (613-487-4122 or mikesflyshop@sympatico.ca)
Float, Paddle & Fly

Note: Typically only le Baron and Float Paddle & Fly have float tubes as regular inventory. The Green Drake will order them as required. A number of FH members have also ordered watercraft from The Fishin Hole.
