Appleton is the first little town downstream from Carleton Place. Take Hwy 7, turn right (north) at Appleton Side Rd.

Count me in for a nice 25 or 30 yr old single malt. Hell, I'd even go for a 10 yr old right about now.

I hit up the landing today.

I also got skunked, however I was only fishing from shore/wet wading.
However, at one point I was standing on a rock with my bare feet about a foot under the water, and I then decided to look down for whatever reason, and there was a fish that had to have been around the 3 ft long mark just sitting there next to my feet.

I have no idea what it was, but even when I shook my foot it didn't move, I had to take the tip of my rod and poke it on the back for it to swim away.

I had my float tube in the back of my car (still in the box actually) but until I get some fins (which will be dictated by the waders I get), it's pretty much going to stay there.

Interesting to see everyone is catching Fallfish nowadays........There is a ton of them in the Jock and in the creeks that run into Rideau and the Jock.......I've never seen such an abundance of them. I've tried to find information about them but can't find much. All I know is they are called Ouitouche in French? And are some sort of Chub, but much bigger....they live in the rapids of the Rideau which is strange to me.....even the Carp live in the rapids in Manotick......They aren't scared off by the fast moving water... they seem to thrive in it.....

Fallfish look like a Grayling kind of....without the big sail like fin on the back...

Gotta love the Gigantic Minnow, the Fallfish!

Does anyone know how big they can get? mine was about 12-14 inches and about 1lb I think maybe a bit more..., thats what my guess is......

Average length is 5" but can grow to 10-15".

Thanks Salar thats great info......so they are like a Chub..cool stuff......

The one I caught must have been at the upper end of the spectrum then. It was pretty large....

Are they any good on the fly? when you catch a big one?

I found they are all pretty spunky and full of energy, and when you pull them out of the water they don't stop flopping their tails side to side, they flop quite violently, almost as bad as young smallmouth bass.........

Thanks Again Salar!

I guess they could be good on the fly if you caught a big enough one. I find them to be more of a nuisance than anything.

I caught a 12" fallfish at the cottage last fall on the 5wt and a white muddler minnow. It fought every bit as well as a 12" smallie in the current.
