Well some cool overcast weather would probably be helpful for a number of the hatches at least. :-)

That being said, if water is too high, etc there's always the Chateaugay which is more consistent given that it's controlled from a dam. I think the St. Regis may be as well.

To my mind, this is a good enough forecast for Malone that, all else being equal, I would go on that day. In retrospect, I think I avoided going too many days that forecast even thunderstorms back in the spring and early summer.
i got it bookmarked now. thanks. this forecast doesn't look as bad. hopefully the clouds and precipitation will just cool off the rivers and won't muddy the water up too much.

If the Salmon and Chateaugay are blown out then fish the Marble. It's a small drainage and spring fed.

Any update on the time and place where people will be meeting?

I would like to come if I can arrange things.

Well, it turned out to be pretty good. We only landed about 5 trout, but they were all respectable size. We didn't get any Browns (hooked and lost one small one), just Rainbows which is fine with me. The weather turned out to be quite nice, at times. Even the rain was nice in its own way.

Didn't see anyone else fishing out there, one bait fisherman in the morning but no one else. Also managed to land about a dozen Fallfish...I really hate those things.

Lots of fun though, hopefully I'll go one more time before season ends.

Man it was a hot one down in NY yesterday. The humidity was almost unbearable. Overall, the fishing was ok, though we did go for a long stretch between 11-2 where we couldn't buy a fish. Between the four of us I'd have to guess that we landed at least 30 bows/browns that were averaging in the 10-12" range, with a few larger.

Nymphing was the mode of choice, given that we didn't see any rises until nearly 7pm, and even then the fish were clearly taking sub-surface emergers.

All in all, another enjoyable day on the water!

I was using caddis larva, and then around 4pm the fish started rising to insects on the surface. I was able to catch them using simulators and other attractor dries.

I caught the majority of mine on either a black reversed spider, partridge & orange and a wiggle butt Iso nymph.

I know of the wild browns, but I was curious if the bows I was catching were wild. With further investigation turns out they weren't.
