If you could...
So I'm betting that most people here do not support/use guides and/or lodges, however, i am looking to setup a guided trip to fish for trout that would be withing a 5hour (each way) drive of Ottawa.
I picked trout simply due to my assumption that a good day of trout fishing might produce more numbers (quantity) than salmon. Please correct me if I am wrong.
So, If you could pick a guide, outfitter, location, etc for a few days (2-3) of quality trout fishing, maybe a combo of wading and drift boating, what would you pick?
I googled this stuff, but you get every tom, dick and harry's guiding services so weeding through this mess is proving to be difficult.
Feel free to add any "best of the best" locations that require flying thousands of miles.. but that is likely not in the budget... Alaska maybe...

Hey man,
I use guides...it makes alot of financial sense. I mean to buy a big boat, downriggers, all the rods, tackle etc just to go 3 times a year makes no sense.
I have a really good guide on Lake O, who operates out of Port Hope. I have found his rates to be really good, and equipment excellent.
I took my wife and father with me this year and they had a blast. We ended up with 8 fish in the boat and 3 lost. We caught Steelhead, Chinook, Rainbow and Brown's.
I know that for multiple day's he'd make the deal very attractive.
I can't speak for the Arctic. I'd love to go there (especially after reading Moosebunk's posting!)...but with 2 young children, and my other commitments it just isn't in the cards.

Check out Rich Garfield from upper New York state. Know some guys that have gone with him and caught some monster browns. Below is his website. Take a look at the 'current fish tales' section for some pics.

Tim,
You could always try Randy Jones @ www.yankeeangler.com. He guides on the Salmon River at Pulaski from mid-Sep through about the end of April. Depending on when you go, you can get into Chinooks, Coho, Steelhead & Browns.
You can either do a drift boat or walking trip. I've never fished with the guy, but I've met him on the river a few times and he seems to be the reel (pun intended) deal. Lots of testimonials on his website.

Jean,
We just had this discussion on one of the other threads. LOL
You can pick up a license at the Wal-Mart in Malone. (Take Hwy 37 into Malone, then take Hwy 11 West. The Wal-Mart is on you left just past the K-Mart.
Note that the NY license if from Oct 1st - Sept 30th. Only two more weekend on this year's license.

Let's see if I were to hire a guide I'd probably go with Rachel Fin from the TCO Hungry Trout flyshop outside of Willmington, NY in order learn some of the secrets to fishing the Ausable during tough conditions. I figure if you can be successful on the West Branch during the tough times, you'll be extremely well off on other bodies of water.

Todd, I like that logic a lot.. some place close that you could return to a few times with success after getting some local tips and tricks from a guide...
Unfortunatly, i just bought a new pathfinder, so any trips are off the books for this year... fortunately, i just bought a new pathfinder so now I have 4x4 again and can get down some logging roads and off-road places for more fishies... unfortunatley i hate getting scrapes on a new car.. i put a good scratch from a huge rock in the door of my last pathfinder trying to go around it "thru the bush"... no trail, just driving thru the forest...lol...
