I got out on the Rideau with Evan the other evening for some pike/eye action. The water levels are pretty close to summer levels already, making for an easy wade.
As for fish I manged a handful of panfish, having switched over due to the appearant absense of any pike/eyes. Evan managed a respectable 17" OOS SM that decided it didn't like his big topwater pike fly. LOL
A short while after the SM, Evan's 9wt Sage decides to blow up on one of his casts, which marked the end to relaxing evening on the water.
It's a shame that the Rideau isn't a cold water fishery as the little black caddis hatch was amazing. The dry fly trout fishing would be a blast!

Just to add, I was out on the Jock Thursday evening an the caddis were everywhere.. we were covered... THis is my second season fly-fishing... and really, the first time i've been aware enough to see a hatch in progress... it was awesome...
I was targeting pike so I didn't have any dry-files with me at all... With all the caddis flies and the smaller pan-fish going bonkers on them I was very disapointed I had nothing to throw...
I did eventually switch from sub-surface pike flies to smaller flies (#8 woolly buggers black 2 yellow tail) and managed several small fall-fish, rock bass and 2 accidental oos smallies (though at less than 10inches I doubt they are even spawners, but still)...
