Ferguson's Falls (Mississippi)

Well the last time I wanted to fish at Ferguson's Fall the water level was too high to effectively wade, though with the lower water levels at Blakeney I thought I'd give it a try today even though the forecast was for possible T-storms. Since everyone I've been fishing with lately were unavailable I'm let to go it alone today. I managed to hit the water a little after 1pm and work the upstream hole....fish on...a nice 12" SM. Hopefully a good sign for things to come.
Well I manage only a couple more 8" smallies and a 10" fallfish in the upper pool...I figure it's time to head downstream. With the low water level you have to wade (i.e. splash calf deep) about 3/4 km downstream to get to areas holding fish. On the lower end of the river the action was constant and thoroughly enjoying. The smallies were averaging 8-10" with at least a dozen 12" or better.
The highlight of the day was a healthy 17" SM that went for 5 runs, peeling line off the reel. A nice chunky SM that I'd peg somewhere in the 3-4lb range. I'll post the pic after the film is developed.
