Fly Anglers' New Years' Resolutions

Post by Fishboy »

OK, Fish-hawkers on the fly...the bait boys are writing about their new years resolutions. What are yours?

I resolve the following:

1) spend more time on the water
2) fish at least 3 new bodies of water
3) finally catch a pike on the fly
4) join the Ottawa Flyfishers Society
5) catch one of those Ottawa River browns I've helped to stock for the past 5 or so years
6) improve my tying skills
7) lose 8 kgs.

Something tells me I'm only going to achieve numbers 1 through 6..... :?

Going to find out how much 8 kg. is in English, and lose it too.

Going to TRY (the operative word) to find someplace where not too many people go, and go there. Doesn't have to be way up north, just a bend in the river with a beaver dam which discourages less adverturous souls.

Going to try and perfect the roll cast so my offerings don't end up in pine trees.

When they do, going to try and take a deep breath and maintain calm.

8kg = 20lbs....depressing thought, no?

If you like stillwater fishing, I know of a few lakes in the Ottawa Valley that rarely have more than me visiting them on any given day...PM me if you'd like.

It is much less depressing in metric. I guess I stick with metric.

this year is the year of the return of the fly rod.

- catch a musky on the 9wt I bought last spring
- finish conversions on boat to make it fly fisher friendly
- fish the upper grand
- buy a 4wt. set up
- get much better at tying flies
- catch a friggin steelhead (do these reallly exist??? )
- reduce weight of 114kgs to 108(ish) kgs. it does sound better in metric.

thats about it.
