Flyfishing for Carp

Post by Fishboy »

Does anyone do this? I'm looking for something new and challenging during the hotter months. Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks.
Time's fun when you're having flies.

A number of the OFS members target carp during the summer. I'm sure they'd be happy to give you more details, etc.

Cheers,

fly fishing for carp

it has been done with dog biscuits on a fly line and fly rod by floating the dog biscuit. but really they are bottom feeders - why where have you seen them?
just got bought a cottage on the rideau system - seeleys bay - coming over from England at easter to fish for carp and whether there was on any sightings of them on this system.

Tony,

Yes there are carp in the Rideau River system, though around Easter your biggest challenge will most likely be water temperatures and the possibility of lingering ice on the water.

Tony in that are of the Rideau (lakes region) carp are present but relatively scarce and much smaller than you find in other areas. The further down towards Kingston the better it gets for carp more or less. You'll find a few in Dog/Cranberry especially the south end by the Sunbury Rd.. Another spot is between Lower Brewers and Washburn Locks. Perhaps its the massive landfill site adjacent that section that has something to do with it?
