Bonnechere River - Brown Trout?

Post by JVE »

I fished the Bonnechere this past weekend near at the caves and in Douglas. Caught a lot of SM bass on the fly, but no luck with any browns. After talking to a couple of locals, apparently fishing for browns was really good until they dropped the water level. Now, only a handfull of browns have been caught so far this year. Has anyone else tried the Bonnechere this year for trout and had any luck?

I was all set to try it out after hearing that they were catching browns a couple of years ago when talking to the biologist at Pembroke that they were going to stop stocking browns there because the water was too warm. Now whether that will happen or not, we do know that all stocking is slated for reduction next year and if the habitat is questionable, it doesn't look good. He hadn't heard of anyone catching browns in the river.

I'll tell you of one lake that you can get browns and that is Darling Long Lake. Inbox me for directions if you are interested.
