This Tuesday's Fishing location will be the Rideau River @ Carleton University. The planned start time is 6:30pm, though feel free to show up earlier if you want more time on the water. The parking lot behind the Wildlife Research Centre (University Dr. / Raven Rd) is free after 5pm.

Are these Tuesday excursions generally "shore friendly"? I don't have any waders (yet.....) and will probably start showing up for these now that my vacation is coming to a close.

You can pick-up a pair of waders for $70.00 at Canadian Tire. I spent my budget on all the other gear at the start of the season so had to make due with these.

They definately do the job but next year I'm getting something breathable. The places around Ottawa you pretty much need them to hit the good spots.

Water is plenty warm/shallow enough to wet wade, Ive never warn waders when fishing the rideau. I tend to wear my waders when fishing the ottawa though.

Before I started fly fishing I would routinely wade the Rideau in an old pair of running shoes, though you had to really be careful as the rocks were slick as snot. That said, when I started fly fishing I did continued with the running shoes for the first season. The next season I picked up a pair of stocking foot waders and boots, though I had to wait a month for the waders to come in. Till then I simply wore the boots with a pair of neoprene socks.

I routinely skip ditch the waders and simply wear the boots if the weather is warm. My recommendation if you're thinking about waders/boots and money is an issue, I would pick up the boots first (as you'll notice a substantial improvement in your footing). Just make sure to try them on with a pair of waders to ensure that they fit. You can pick up a pair of waders at a later date.

As for the Tuesday Night fishing, all of the spots have accessible water that can be fished without wading up to your waist. The next outing will be on the Ottawa again, but up around the Britania filtration plant. I will post the announcement soon.

An additional point, if you're wading the Ottawa, or any other river with substantial current, it is highly recommended for safety reasons, to equip yourself with a wading staff. (see article)

Excellent point Todd , I actually wear my studded wading boots when I wet wade as well.
