Ausable River Report

Post by Salar »

Just got back from a 3 day trip to the Ausable River in New York State. Low water, bright sun, and warm weather made for difficult conditions. Between the three of us we managed to get into a decent amount of trout (largest was approximately 18") but the fishing was very slow. You had to work for your fish and cover a lot of water. Nymphing in the morning and during the day produced the most trout. For myself, I had the most action in the evening during the Blue Winged Olive hatches. Small drys (#18, 20) presented drag free were the ticket. Below are a couple photos.

Caught this brown on a #18 Olive Klinkhammer:

Caught this brown on a #20 Parachute BWO:

I'm hoping to get out at least once more trout fishing with the fly rod this season.

Cheers,

Salar.
