October Trout (Calabogie)

A number of us manged to get out to one of the well known rainbow lakes in the Calabogie area for some tubing and 'tooning. Even though the bite was a little slow, the great weather made for a very enjoyable float. All in all I think everyone had a great day, even though my wife got skunked. Guess she needs a little more practice setting the hook on those quick trout bites. I think we managed around 6-8 bows between us.
Salar, good to see you again. Nice little kickboat toons you have. So did you manage any more after we left?

Great to see you again Todd. The bite slowed down even more after you left. I had two more around 5:30 (landed one...). My father had one more on but didn't land it. We ended up staying till dark. They were biting best around 1:00-2:00.

They're always fun even if you don't land them. If the weather co-operates I'll probably try to get back up for some more floating on the 4th. I'll have to ping Bob as well, as he's pretty much been the point man for the OFS tubing this season for the Calabogie area. I think we have about a dozen guys on mailing list that we use whenever we're going out. It's always more fun as a small group as opposed to fishing on your own. Plus there's a little added security for breakdowns, accidents, etc. Feel free to send Bob (bobfly) a PM if you'd like him to add you to our email list.

Thanks for the invite. I'll send Bobyfly a PM. It doesn't take me too long to get to the lakes around Calabogie from where I live in Arnprior. Hoping to get out the next two weekends. After that I don't like to be out and about during hunting season.

Salar et al,
Just wear plenty of orange and keep your antennas covered. During hunting season, the camp guys at Limestone won't let you in unless you are dressed appropriately. Mind you, these guys have guns and if hunting is slow...... I remember as a kid fishing with my dad in duck territory and having shot landing all around us, "The sun is out, why is it raining?" I think you are pretty safe on those lakes which are right beside main roads.
I plan on fishing right to the end of November but maybe not in the tube. Bring on that global warming.

I guess it's either wear orange or pay the $40 and fish at the Bing. At least there I know I can drive right down to the beach with the car. LOL
