Unless there is more than one Ottawa Fly Fishing club, my experience has been quite the opposite. I showed up as a vistor to almost all of the OFFS Tue night fishes in the summer as an FF newbie and was welcomed without hesitation. As a result, I joined the OFFS in Sept. and since then I have met many more great people, learned how to tie flies and been introduced to float tubing.I joined the Ottawa Fly Fishing club when I first moved to Ottawa and I never felt welcome there and was mostly ignored.

Todd,
Typically we have 20-25 tiers. Our last tying night we had 22 tiers, which was a surprise since it was still hunting season.
You're more than welcome to join us for a tying night. Our calendar of events is available here:

Currently Mike is planning on being at the following meetings (weather permitting): November 29, December 19, January 24, February 21.
Cheers,
Paul (Salar)

Woolly Bugger,
Ahhh...I think that was a year before I joined. In some ways I could probably see why you felt that way. In any case the society has evolved quite a bit since the first year I joined, for the better I like to think. The meeting speakers/topics are posted in the forum so if you ever want to drop in to see if it has changed to your liking feel free to attend.
Cheers,
Todd
