Stillwater Fly Fishing for Trout Podcasts

Post by Salar »

Hi Everyone,

Lately I've been listening to a number of fly fishing related podcasts. Several have been on fly fishing for trout in stillwaters; below are the links to the podcasts (right click on the link and then click 'Save Link As' to download to your computer). They're quite long but well worth listening too.

Fly Fishing for Trophy Trout in Stillwaters with Denny Rickards (1hr30 minutes)

Fly Fishing Stillwater with Denny Rickards (31 minutes)

Mike Andreasen on Stillwater Fly Fishing (49 minutes)

The most interesting points I thought were:
  • Presentation is more important than fly pattern
  • Use a non-slip loop knot for tying on flies
  • Keep rod tip in the water when retrieving fly
  • Early spring food sources: leeches, minnows
  • Leeches to be tied thin and sparse (best sizes are #8,10)
Cheers,

Salar.
