Well from the private reports I've read, the tubing season is clearly open. (Thanks for the unvitation guys. )

So Beachburger, I take it you got to break in your new toy on the weekend? How was the new ride?

In any case, based on the weather forecast, my better half and I will most likely be heading up the valley for some trout'n fun on Sunday. I'm looking at NY the weekend after or the long weekend.

I'm eager to get down to New York for some brookie action too. This upcoming weekend I'm busy with another trip (you've been invited already ). I'll have to check my calendar for the two following weekends but I should be free.

By the way, you're P-quads don't seem to work . I had one rainbow look at it and turn the other way....

I figured you already had a tube trip planned. I guess I won't figure anymore.....

The new tube worked great and was very comfortable. If I dropped 20 lbs, my butt would be out of the water but as it stood, I was sitting in about 1/2 inch of water. Need to make sure the fins are comfortable before getting too far from shore. In-water adjustments are somewhat awkward but that is probably more a function of my belly being too big than anything else.

The moron move of the weekend was me leaving my fly vest at home meaning all of my flies, leaders and sink tips stayed at home as well. Fortunately Paul lent me one of his spare reels that was loaded with a full sink line and he set me up with a nice package of flies to get me through the day. Of course, I'll be getting a spare spool loaded with a full sink line in the not too distant future.

About the P-Quads not working. Tie me up 6 more just so I can make sure they don't work.....

I plan on giving Stevenson another shot next weekend. C'mon up

I haven't tried out the booby yet. I don't have a DI5 or DI7 line either.

This early in the season I'm using my clear intermediate line. With it only being about a week since ice-out the trout should be close to the surface.

Your reports on the weekend of tubing have given me the courage to confess about my trips to NNY.

I have gone twice, on Thursday 17 April and on Sunday 20 April. I think I drifted nymphs in about eight locations in total on about six different rivers.

Water temperatures varied from a low of 42 F on the Chateauguay near Brainiardsville (did not fish -- just curious) to 54 F at mid-afternoon on the Marble. (Three pleasant hardware-throwing teenagers arrived just after me at the one hole I though would be promising).

The Salmon near Lower Flat Rock was about 46 F, if memory serves.

My total catch was one small brown and one sucker. Both came from the North Branch of the Great Chazy near Lake Louisa. Some guys I spoke to there told me stories about deeply-coloured 16-inch browns taken near dusk. My brown was less than half that, but my sucker was getting close...

I was going to post shortly after returning but then time passed and I was going to keep it as my dirty little secret.

Generally, the water was quite high everywhere but the Marble. It was high on the Marble, too, but that means it is over your ankles in most places.

If any of you gentlemen are going to NNY in the next couple of weeks and would be gracious enough to let me tag along or meet you down there, I would be very grateful to see how others do it. Any and all PMs are appreciated.

Thanks for the report. I'll be sticking to the lakes until the end of May. I'll start making my way down to the rivers in New York in June. I'll send you a msg when I'm heading down (remind me if I forget to).

Are you going to be up at the cottage this weekend or driving up from town to fish?

Well it seems the spring Kenauk outing is a go (dates to be set). This might throw a wrench into my NY plans but based on how well the fall Kenauk outing was last year I can't pass it up!

Hope I can join an outing. I live only a few blocks from Greendrake, and if anyone has room I will be more than willing to split gas costs. Also, I promise I will not tell anyone outside the tubing group info on locations fished.

Kenauk is defintely stacked with lots of fish and some big ones. The fish were schooled very tightly when I went, and I had and witnessed many, many doubles.

What, in a general sort of way, is "Kenauk"?

The name reminded me of something I thought I heard about in Montebello that cost about $85 a day, not including a Quebec licence (and maybe that is inaccurate too, because I heard about it quite some time ago while I was trying to practice my French). However, I'm thinking that it might be something completely different.
