It's a very good spot for Walleye............They love the current and structure there. Plus the river bends down there and creates some nice back eddies.

Under the Bridge near there is a good spot....I don't know the road name but it's a bridge that goes onto the Island of Manotick, not the main ones in town, but near the area you are having the Flyfishing gathering.

Rocky bottom, it could almost pass for a trout river! ....almost! haha

Have fun at the gathering, it will be a good fish, Manotick produces some nice fish....

Take Care,

Brown Trout could probably live in the back channel of Manotick from the Manotick Mill Dam down to the Long Island Dam and even a bit below that near the Rideau Valley Conservation Authority Trails and Beryl Gaffney Park.

It's quite trouty, has alot of pebbles on the bottom, and some vegetation but not those nasty types of weeds bass and pike hang out in.

Water is a little bit too warm though, but compared to the Ottawa it is pretty close.

Predators would probably eat them all up though.

About 30 years ago my dad's friend caught a brown trout in Mud Creek which is just south of the place where you will be flyfishing if you come out here. Nowadays mud creek has fallen prey to housing developments and is now very very muddy, and trout can't live in it. There are alot of fallfish in it though, you will catch fallfish by the trillion in there....

I wonder why they haven't tried Stocking the Rideau near the Barnsdale Road Bridge.....It's accessible for fly fishing and very shallow under the Barnsdale bridge, and seems like good trout habitat.

Very rapidy all the way up to Manotick Mill, but there are some deep holes along the way where the river becomes less quick and there are a hell of alot of Muskie in them.....There is a park just south from the Barnsdale bridge on the river, and down there, there is tons of Muskie and big Pike. It's very deep and slower moving....Not somewhere I would like to swim! :P

To everyone who is able bodied, you should come out and fish this. I won't be there because of my lungs but I would be happy if yall would come out to Manotick and enjoy the areas great fishing opportunities.

It's only about 5 minutes from Barrhaven max. It's not as far as people seem to think. Everyone assumes it's in the sticks/country but it's only 5 mins from Barrhaven and 5 mins from Riverside South. Well worth the drive too, cuz the fishing is great!

Enjoy Manotick's great fishing!

Unfortunately there's not trout, and even if they stocked it, the water gets way to warm in the summer.

Well the weather forecast looks good, water levels are slowly coming down. Hopefully the bite will be above average tomorrow. ;-)

Evan,

I'm gearing up for SM, though you can get some eyes later. My fly selection will include:

Olive beadhead woollybuggers #6,#8
Olive tungstonhead woollybuggers #6,#8
Olive Outcast crayfish #6,#8
Clouser minnows

Black panfish poppers #8
gurglers
Stimulators

If there's a good hatch you might get some emerger/dry fly action.

Well we had a good number out last night, I'm guessing 11 or 12 of us. Shame the water levels are still so high. Best hookup of the evening was another memorable "It's just a little bass....It's a muskie now!" moment. The fellow (whose name elludes me) played him for about 4 minutes and two spectacular jumps before it rolled on him and cut him off.

For anyone looking to head down I would recommend wading from the Barnsdale Rd. bridge until the water levels drop at least 8 inches. Until then you can access more water from that particular location.
