My 4-Legged Newfoundland Fishing Buddy

I just got back from an incredible trip to Western Newfoundland and the Northern Peninsula where I was able to get out fishing twice.

I had a pretty successful trip landing 3 Atlantic salmon grilse ranging between 3-5 lbs and a bunch of brookies, the largest being 15".

On the last day my guide took me to this great little spot where the fishing was incredible and I even had my own personal 4-legged fishing buddy accompany me for the entire 2.5 hours I was there.

She just stood there the entire time feasting on lilly pads and weeds, completely cool with sharing her pond with a stranger. If that doesn't sum up Newfoundland in one shot I don't know what does.

You may need to zoom the photo to see it better as my guide wasn't exactly technologically gifted and the idea of a "zoom button" was quite astonishing to him.

Congratulations on the grisle :) Atlantic salmon are my favorite species to go after. It can be frustrating at times but the scenery always makes up for it.

Sounds like a great trip.

I am heading to Newfoundland later this week but will be on the east side of the island - maybe getting out to the north central coast. I heard they have had some pretty warm temperatures and that fishing has been closed in some areas so I am not too sure what to expect.
