Summer Evening Flyfishing (July 29th)

Post by Todd B. »

Strathcona (Part 2)

Given the current water conditions Strathcona gets the nod once again, given that it has been the best producing location this season and is the easiest for everyone to wade.

Location: Strathcona Park (Rideau R.)
Time: 6pm or whenever you want to get on the water
Parking: limited parking in the lot at the end of Somerset.(map)
Species: SM, walleye, pike
Suggested Flies: your fav SM streamers, etc., poppers, etc.

Notes:
While the water level is still above normal summer levels. I'm hoping that the forecasted rain will not raise it significantly. Typically the best fishing has been above or below the rapids, however with the high water, fishing above can be difficult but not impossible. The last time I was out the bass were feeding on minnows. Swinging heavy woollybuggers and short slow strips worked best.
