Well I decided to get out for a couple hours of stress relief yesterday evening. Given my wader situation I decide to just throw my boots on and play in a stretch of knee deep pocket water on the Jock, that also has a couple of respectible pools.

All in all it was a pretty respectable evening on the water a couple dozen SM, rockbass, fallfish and my first walleye (17") this season. I would have posted a pic unfortunately it managed to squirm out of my grip before I could take the picture. LOL

Now some people might think that a couple dozen fish is a great day on the Jock, unfortunately this is a far cry from what it used to be before they started the new subdivivsions last fall.

In any case, if you're not concerned about the size of your fish, you can have a blast with a 3wt on the Jock.

You made out better than I did last night. Took my son to Hog's Back. Threw almost every fly I had at them, but hardly got and strikes. I could see the fish following the flies, but they were very reluctant to hit.

My son was using spinning gear with gulp worms. Again, we could see the fish following the worm, but they just didn't want it.

In the end, we only landed 4 or 5 small SM in 2 hrs.

That's because you lost the "fly" last week. LOL

Yeah, I was so desperate to get another one that I decided to delve into tying my own.

Started out using the dollar store method.... Made my own vice using an exacto knife ala the fellow at the OFS open house. Made a bobbin from an old pen and clothes hangar, got a bunch of feathers and material from various dollar stores and I was in business. Watched a bunch of videos and lessons online then went at it and tied up a bunch of buggers ( or something that vaguely resembles buggers) and hit the river. Caught a bunch of smallies and rock bass. A friend has since given me an old, but "real" AA vice and I've made a number of trips to Green Drake; Float, Paddle and Fly; LB; and Action Sports to stock up on "real" materials.

My recent flies don't look much better than the dollar store versions, but they're a lot easier to tie. My version of "your" olive bugger worked well at Long Island on Sat night, but struck out at Hog's Back last night.

Guess we'll need to hook up again soon so that I can bum another good one from you It won't be tomorrow night, though, family obligations will get in my way
