Champlain Rapids

Post by Salar »

Hi Everyone,

I spent the day at the Champlain Rapids today fly fishing with a friend. The good news is that the water levels have finally dropped. It looks like the water has dropped at least a foot and a half. I started off at Bate Island around noon. The fishing was slow to start because of the bright sun. Once the cloud cover rolled in about an hour later we started to get into some bass. The water is low enough now that you can wade over to the islands closer to the Ontario side from both above and below the bridge. Landed about a dozen small bass by around 3pm and then decided to go have some lunch at Subway. Afterwards we headed to the Quebec side of the rapids. The fishing was about the same. It was consistent but slow. Again nothing big. The was levels have really opened up the available water to wade.

Flies that were producing today were the Chili Pepper, JJ Special, Black Woolly Bugger, Black Ghost. The Chili Pepper was by far the most productive fly today.

Cheers,

Salar

Ya, here's a pic from today. LOL.

I'd have to be crazy to run my pontoon boat in the Champlain rapids. I'd have to upgrade to the Outcast PAC boat pictured above. They're supposed to be able to run class III-IV. Even if I had one I'd have to check my sanity before I'd run a rapid in it.
