Got Skunked at the Jock River Landing...

Jean and I hit Jock Landing in the float tubes, figuring we could get away from the stained smelly water... We did swim/float away from the smells, however...
we got skunked, and the 2 other boats fishing near us didn't seem to hookup either...
Now my junk smells, and I'm frustrated...
Just wanted to share my pain and failure publicly...

Hookup,
Don't feel too bad, I feel your pain. I hit Strathcona Park on Wed night and while I didn't get skunked, I only brought one smallie to hand and had 3 or 4 LDRs. The bite was really bad - Todd's magic flies didn't produce a single strike!
On the plus side (or minus depending on your point of view) when I arrived at the park, the river was full of bikini-clad co-eds trying to cool off after a hard day at university.

Well I managed at least 3 dozen small ones (SM, rockbass, fallfish) further up the Jock R. It was only near the end if the evening that I managed to get into a few respectible SM and a huge fallfish. All in all a relaxing (though hot and humid) evening on the water)

I hit the water with a variety of flies- beaded WB's in various sizes and colours, Clouser Minnows, Poppers etc...nothing. Zilch.
It was fairly relaxing to just float along and hit some areas that should have been holding. I did see a number of respectable-sized rises, but only got one ok strike (before losing it) the entire time we were out (18:00-20:00 or so).
On the plus side, it was smile-inducing to see Tim flail away in his float tube

I am planning on hitting some smaller lakes with the tube on the weekend...see what might happen.
Cheers,
Jean

Now is that flailing away with his feet or his 9' stick?

Todd: yes to both!

To be fair, it was Hookup's first time EVER out on his float tube and it does take a fair amount of getting used to. He did very well, didn't get dunked and came back to shore with rod in hand!

You guys are not attuned with my greatness.

I wasn't fishing, I was floating with style... Obviously I wasn't really fishing, I didn't catch anything.. had I been fishing, there'd have been no fish left un-hooked in that area...

Hookup,
I think beachburger would have to disagree with you. I think his definition of floating in style would be laid back taking a snooze while on the water.

Humm... is there beer involved? I do think he wins...
That reminds me... I know beer and boats do not mix... i don't do it ever, personal choice, to each his own and all that...
However, my float tube is not a boat.. it's basically a floating lounge chair in the water, not a water craft, not even a PFD... so if I was dragging along a cooler of beer and was drinking them, openly.. and OPP pulled up in their big boat with their summer student drivers... what'dyall think would happen? I'm guessing, if I was not out far from shore and away from boating channels, I'd really not get anything worse than maybe a hard-time.. but no tickets no confiscation of beer?
Not sure.. i do know you can get crap for having beer in a canoe.. friend of mine got charged.. went to court over it.. "wasn't open, 3 cans were loose in the bottom of the boat.. because no cooler..." Not saying he's an angel, but anyhow, he got charged for some boating/drinking thing in a canoe...
So, float-tubes and brews? guesses??
PS: it's Friday and I'm bored, so you guys get to see my stupid thoughts... that's just how it is....

IMO,
Beer is for after fishing...

My ears are burning.....
I don't partake on the water but have been known to enjoy a few afterwards.
Not sure about the beers in tubes but it would not surprise me in the least if it was the same as the canoe.
I drove out to Appleton last night with the tube and ended up driving home 10 minutes after I got there.
I forgot my reel.

Where the hell is Appleton.. the only one I've heard of was out towards Cornwall area... i think..
and I agree... about the beers.. i like the idea while i sit at my desk, not working and thinking about fishing.. would i bring beer with me.. honestly.. i cannot see it happen.. it is a hypo-rhetorical question mostly... and mainly a rambling...
damn, i need to fish...
