I'm looking at getting into some pike (C&R only), is there any particular body of water that seems to be productive this time of year for them? Could either be wading, or by float tube.

As a kid growing up on the St. Lawrence the pike fishing was untouchable... It was nothing to hook into 10lb pike plus frequently. A faimly friend knew how to clean them so that they had no bones, something i recently leanred, and pike are amazing eating... i know.. C&R is your thing but just saying..

Anyhow... Lake St. Francsis on the St. Lawrence has some awesome pike, I won a derby with a 13.62 a few years ago... and the St. Lawrence West of Brockville, (butternut bay area and jones creek) are excellent... The zebra problem has sent them all deeper, so youll have to look for weed lines...

Hookup, I've had pike before as well, they are very good eating. But Cleaning them is a bit of a pain.

I really appreciate the name drops of those bodies of water, I really do.

pike are all over in the otawa river.

mclauren bay as some nice ones..but mainly hammer andle. and sometime bigger ones.

for bigger pike in the ottawa out oeus or EST..ouest off renfrey and EST off montebelo..the middle secton as some but a bit harder to get bigger size.

but you are talking..wading and float tube.

victoria island on the islabd itself..on that little beach,,some pike that that little area.

There are a few dozen videos on youtube about how to clean a pike with no bones. I just watched one and tried it on the next pike i caught. It worked as good as advertised.

if your still looking for good pike waters all alone the rideau and the banks of the ottawa from the yatch club to quion and also you might get into some huge muskie

There were some decent pike caught around the Westboro beach during the Riverkeeper Tournament last month. Try it out with your float tube.

if you go in a tube that way(wesboro beach) try to stay on the EST side and not to close to the bridge.......if not..current will get you. ..BEEN THRE.DONE THAT.. .

but like salr said..pikes have been caught there close to the beach..but all later in evening.

I have always found the Rideau from the area upstream of the train bridge (wading) and downstream past the Bank St. Bridge (float tube) have been very productive for everything from Pike, Walleye and Muskie through to Smallmouth Bass. Also, the area of the Rideau near the old Algonquin Campus is productive and is easily wade-able after the spring thaw is over. Not to mention all of the water is very easy to access.

I've only caught 1 pike this year, so I can' help you......

Caught more muskies than pike for some reason...........

First pike of the year was caught on the upper mad in Griffith.....

Perfect eating size too, and from very clean, cold, water.......should have kept it but let the bugger go...


The pike fishing in the Yukon was unbelievable...........there were bays maybe 2-3 ft deep and you would go into them and see hundreds of pike just lurking about..

One of the fish i released was cannibalized by a bunch of them......the pike fishing was just AMAZING..............

I caught 15 in only a couple of hours at Burritts Rapids, mostly small ones but some decent ones too. It was amazing, never had that kind of success before. Great spot for wading as well. Not sure what has changed there, used to be a great hole for bass but the pike have moved in. I was using bucktails but a friend of mine had similar success a few days later with spoons. I want to head back with some top water gear. Should be a blast with that many pike in the water. Anybody else notice a lot of pike along that stretch of the Rideau this year?
