Long-Island - Sept 17

Jean and I fished it... didn't get skunked...

It was peaceful and relaxing but not productive.. haha. We each manged to coax 3 fish for a total of 6. However, two of mine were fall-fish and could not have been more than 7 inches long, but about as thick as my fly rod... the other was a smallie, that was probably big enough to be a good snack for one of the fall-fish i caught.

No real action, i figure the cold-front moving thru moved the fish to deeper structure, or maybe i was just not throwing the right meals... either way, nothing really happening.

I hope to get there again this weekend... and I will update this thread.

A few close calls early on for me.. then I stepped in some metal stuff way out at the end of the rapids and "almost fell". I was quite deep so and wasnt able to bend over and get the damn thing out of the water... as it felt like metal, i didn't want to try to hook-it with my leg and pull it up.. for fear of ripping a hole in my waders...

So... other than some rain, no accidents.. this time.

I've personally had very little luck at Long Island (either above of below the locks). Caught a few pan fish but otherwise nada.
Probably the person rather than the lack of fish.

Myself and my son were there a few weeks ago and this guy comes along with an underwater camera. He shows my son the huge number of small fish under the dock...but when I jokingly asked where the big ones were he said he hadn't seen any big ones for several weeks.

It was a good late afternoon of fishing after work. As Tim mentioned, no biggies for either of us- out of my 3, the largest was maybe a 1.0lb sm. the other 2 were in the .5lb range...but fun to catch.

Copper John's in size 14 with a jerking retrieve were working for me, but nothing on either my WB's or Chili Peppers. Darn- I'm not a fan of tying Copper John's, but I guess I'll need a few more in the fly box.

Gerry,

When we talk about Long Island, we're referring to the river section, rather than above or below the locks.
