Fish-Hawk.Net

Well Beeman brought me up to one of his favorite brookie lakes yesterday, despite the chilly weather. Having never fished this lake and not know what the access was like I left my tubing gear at home and fished from shore with Beeman. Let's just say that the effort required to access this particular lake results is very limited fishing pressure, even from shore.

Considering that we were fishing from shore, we did pretty good, going two for five. Mine being a respectable 17-18" female (with eggs) and Beeman's a nice (personal best) 20" male in full spawning colours. (pics to follow)

After a couple of hours of fishing and the temps falling we decided to call it a day. Wouldn't you know it that as soon as we're packed up along comes another good sized male brookie, feeding in 2' of water, right where we had been fishing. LOL

If the MNR ever starts to designate lakes as "Trophy Status", this lake would be right up there on my list of lakes that should receive such status.

Unfortunately I was unable to get a picture of Geoff's beauty as he was on the other side of the bay and too far for the zoom on my camera.

Thats a great report Todd. Those brookies are reaching trophy status for around here.

About a month or so ago Katch Moore had the chance to witness a brookie feeding on schools of small minnows, using the rock as a ambush point. We watched it for about 4 minutes before deciding to try and catch the little bugger. We saw three fish that day feeding on small minnows....just left them alone as we were looking for bigger fish. Somehow, these fish were not spooked by our presence at all...just devouring minnows It was a first for me. Very cool

Glad that you enjoyed the day. That is one of my favourites, with the added benefit that it keeps all but the crazy people away.

Thanks again, it was a great day. Fishing that lake in a tube this time of year would be amazing though.

Actually it's pretty impressive. No garbage, no tinnies, and you can pretty much expect to have the lake all to yourself.
