My First Fly Fishing Experience

Tried fly fishing for my first time yesterday, and I wanted my first fish on the fly to be a trout. I went up to Otter Lake located at the Kenauk Park to increase my odds at having a good 1st experience with a fly rod as the lakes in the park are stocked.
The plan was the pack up the wife and daughter early in the morning and drop them off at Montebello and get there by 8-9am…however as I am finding out you are never on time once you have a baby….or sleep, eat warm meals, but that’s a whole other story…
. SO I got to the lake at 2pm
It was awesome I had the whole (but small) lake to myself

...oh I shared it with this guy….for you BA

On my first cast near the dock I got a bite…I was like “no way, a trout right away†but it felt kind a small and it was…lol but technically my first on the fly.

So I continued to cast close to shore and near some fallen trees with a yellow winged hamills killer and a few casts later a real tug…and what I consider my first fish on the fly,

...but not a trout, I caught many more bass all around the same size the biggest at about 3-3.5lbs. They sure were fun to catch on the fly rod, I am totally hooked. So after about an hour of catching bass and sunfish on the edges, a rather large feisty bass stole my fly, so I decided to switch gears and fish the deeper water I hopes of finding some trout in this “trout lakeâ€
I tied on a black woolly bugger and let it sink down the water column before my retrieve, and it didn’t take long till I felt a bite at the end of my line? Bingo

finally a trout on the fly, and it gave me a fight to remember making several acrobatic jumps and flips feet out of the water (tured out to have been the best fight of the day)...NOW TOTALLY HOOKED
...I continued to catch them in one end of the lake for the rest of the afternoon
I had a blast catching over 20 fish in he 3 hours I was there...and all on a fly rod...didn't even set my spinning rod up. I was planning on doing a bit of walleye fishing tomorrow, but I have a feeling I may have to put some time aside and see if I can get a few smallies on the fly.
Here is tonights dinner and the result of my first and very memorable fly fishing experience
