Got my hands on Fly-Tying. After practising on a few different types of Woolly Burger, I decided to make one pattern on a tube for a swap (got 12 done, but it took me three initial tries before I could get it straight for the 12 others).



Swap Fly (OFS)
Favorite Stillwater Trout Patterns (Springtime)

Pattern: MGD’s O-G/WB Tube

Tube: HMH Semi-rigid shank (1.0” 2.5 cm) with flexible end joint (5/8” 1.5 cm)
Weight: .035” diameter lead wire
Tread: Olive Dun 6/0
Tail: Strung/Heron Grey Marabou
Flash: Black Holographic & Red Krystal Flash
Rib: Copper Wire
Body: Medium Dark Olive
Hackle: Orange Grizzly Saddle
Hook: Mustad 2XL #8 Straight Eye

Missed you at that Bill (William) Spicer presentation of his and Collin's Newfoundland & Labrador fishing for salmon. Guess you were caught up somewhere else.

I had the opportunity of sitting next to Faruk Ekich and chat with him. Did not know the individual, but he showed me an article with his advertisement of his bobbin and vise, and he talked about his skill and travel.

Found this fishing article from him "Faruk of the North"

I also found a French version of that almost similar article on him, where he mentions he step by step develop the concept of fly on a "tube", not to injure the fish where he was at The Coppermine river.

Was the "tube" concept his, or did it exist before hand?

Or did he just make one with the hook up pattern?

I'm not sure who came up with the concept of the tube fly.

I think Mike Fuller has one of those bobbins. It's pretty cool (but not cheap).

Well, I misundestood a PM from our OFS Club for the Swap, and created a modified pattern yesterday, and made 12 of these today.



Had to make 4 at first to solve some of the "kinks". Oh Well! more into the fly-box.


Pattern:

“Beaded Peacock Soft-Hackle with Legs”


Hook: Mustad 2XL #8
Head: Gold Cyclops 5/32” Bead
Weight: .020” diameter lead wire
Tread: 6/0 Olive Dun
Ribbing: 3/64” #12 Gold/Silver Mylar:
Legs: Sily Legs – Pumpkin/Green, Black
Body: Dubbed Peacock Herl
Hackle: Indian Hen Back Assorted Mottled

Bougth the material today to make this particular pattern. Elk Hair Caddis. A challenge for me, since I'm going from tying on size 8 hooks to size 12. I'll soon need a magnifying glass.



This Tuesday evening, our Club had as an invited guess, the host of the WPBS show Streamside, Mr. Don Meissner (with friends of his) who entertained us on the various spots of fly fishing in NY St-Lawrence County, among other places.

I'm looking forward in my planned salmon/steelhead trip, possibly end of February, to the Paluski, NY Salmon River.

I'm also looking towards fishing the Calabogies in ON, and a Spring trip to Kenauk, Montebello, QC

Might as well enjoy living.
