Hi folks, I have a 1993 Procraft Bass boat with a 135HP Merc and I need to replace the steering cables and I was wondering if anyone could give me a ball park figure on how much this should cost before I start phoning around to the various dealers for repairs The system is cable driven and not hydraulics.
I tried to do the exact same thing, except it was with a Johnson.
Apparently the cabling system changed in 1996 and now the cables are setup differently.
I had to buy a whole new set of controls since my motor is 1998, and it cost me $550. However, they work like a dream.
Best of luck in your search.
You should be able to get cables for it and should run btw 250 and 300 w/o tax for two cables(assuming you have dual rack steering)
Not sure what cost is for installation but will be but likely another 2-300.
Not that hard to do it yourself!!
I just replaced my 2 93 evinrude cables last year and was easy to do and cost under 300.
Probally too late but I just replaced my zero feedback rack and pinion with Seawind hyd steering. Now I do not think I would have a boat without it, like driving your car but way more fun.
Yep, too late I had it done by end of May or so. Went to a rack system, not too bad, its OK nothing special as far as making a big difference. At least its done and over with.
Now on to other things like a new float switch and even perhaps replacing the floor and carpet.
