Just be carefull buying generic oil for your outboard. We ran into a couple of customers that used that oil in thuer Mercury Optimax engines and they ended up having to change plugs prematurely due to sludge build up (at $33 each x 4 or 6 cylinders). The no name brand oils contain more detergent than the Brand specific ones. Even though it says good for Direct Injection engines on the bottle and will not void warranty it will be time off the water and will decrease fuel economy over time. If you want proof look at the area on your motor (Prop center or exhaust vent on the shaft) and see the oily sludge that is coming out vs just a thin black film from branded oils.

I know that no outboard company makes their own oil but they are formulated for specific modes and many are semi synthetic.

Now if you have an old 1960-1980's engine it is not as much of an issue but you are still using an oil with high detergent content.

If you want to save some money and are not running a fuel injected engine buy a higher quality of oil like Quicksilver brand(it is a less expensive Mercury brand) and is available at your local marina, Canadian Tire and Walmart.
