Trolling motor suggestions?

Post by solar »

I'm looking for a bow-mounted trolling motor, for a 14' aluminum Lowe fishing boat. I'll be wiring in a second battery, which will be dedicated to the trolling motor. The wiring and plug-in for a trolling motor are already installed in the bow. I've narrowed it down to a Minn Kota V2 Powerdrive, 45" shaft, but am open to suggestions or the benefit of your experiences.

Thanks all,

Chris

I've used both Motor Guide and Minnkota. The Minnkota is quiter at almost twice the the thrust, but these are two different price points. Given past experience with my 16', 50hp and stupid amount of gear, I'd say a 45lb unit will move you along just fine. It's quiet at low speeds, but will have enough pop to fight the wind and current.

I'll be putting my 2 year old Minn Kota Power drive V2 up for sale shortly. It's 55pd and 48". Will be sold with all wiring and mounting bracket. PM me if interested for more info.
