Slowing a canoe in the wind...

Post by tallpaul »

Until I get my canoe rigged with an electric motor (assuming I can), what are your thoughts on either a drift sock or a light anchor for slowing the canoe down. Wind really moves a canoe...
Actually, before I get bashed... I do NOT like the anchor idea... dragging the bottom and ripping up weeds & habitat. In fact, if a drift sock of sorts isn't a good option, then I'll probably go with nothing at all.

Drift socks do a good job but they can be a PIA if you are looking to drift a small area. If you want to do a cheap test, take a reuseable grocery bag, tie a 15'-20' of rope to the handles and chuck it overboard. Bring a couple of grocery bags in case one is not enough to slow you down.
