Steering lube?

I am embarrased to say that my boats steering needs a good cleaning and lube.

I found out the hard way. As I always do.

I thought the zerk greese fitting on the center of the tilt tube was to lube the cable.

I now know it is to lube the motors tilt point. Not the steering!

So im going to add this Job to my many other "things to get done" list.

What type of lube should I use for this job? I have merc 2-4-C? or should I use white lythium greese? Im sure the owners manual would have this answer. But Im not sure where the manual is at.

Lots of good info on this on 'iboats.com'---I found out how to free
mine up and it was seized!!

They suggest very thin oil or even tranny fluid, grease tends to
bind up over time and leads to steering 'seizure'.

Check out the website!! A huge wealth of info!!

That site is awesome. Been on it for a good while and visit it regularly still today.

Take everything with a grain of salt as they say... any advice you are thinking of taking, cross reference with a web search and a phone call to a local shop.
