Changing Prop Hub??

Post by Cyber »

1st off, is it possible to re & re a fixed hub in a prop?? :?
And 2nd, if possible, anyone know where to get it done??

I got a good deal on a S/S prop, but it's the older OMC 13 spline
and won't fit my 15 spline Merc. I hate to have to resell it, I'd like
to convert it to fit my Merc if possible, or trade for another S/S
prop that will fit. :D
Thanx for any input!! 8)

I mean remove the OMC rubber hub and replace it
with a Mercury one (13 spline vs. 15 spline).

others may know more but I am sure that the rubber is glued in. I think if you check into it at a marine supplier you can buy different hubs for props. there is someone in Arnprior, Jim Patrois 613-623-6300. He is considered by many to be the best. If you were to take it to a marina, they would more than likely send it to him anyways. cut out the middle man and save $ 8)

I called Jim but he didn't think it was doable. Not the answer I was looking for, but I may
have to live with it and sell the prop to someone with an OMC motor.
Enter "389510" in propeller application sites and there is a long list of motors this thing fits the way it is.

Sorry Cyber but you cannot repair a hub. You can however reuse certain Merc hubs.
As far as the spline count, it is important.
There could very well be an aftermarket hub that will fit your new prop to match your prop shaft.
Call us at Laurentian if you need more assistance.

Bill yes it can be easily re hubbed, around here i doubt it, i use OMC Srx 29 chopper props on my Mercury's, and i have the props shipped directly to John janaky at DAH in Wisconsin. He installs the merc hubs, works his magic on the blades, and sends me a special hardware kit for installing it onto the shorter merc shaft.

OK, so it can be done, just not 'cost effective' for me, so I've listed
the prop in the classifieds for some OMC lover to enjoy!!

Ended up getting a sweet 13/20 Laser to fit my Merc, now just hope I
can recoup my money for the OMC S/S and not be stuck with it! :( :(
