So I've managed to bung up 2 Wedless Wedge II props now because the shear pins don't break free, they just bend or don't break in the right spot and mangle the inside of the hub. Just using the pins than come in the kit.
Am i using the wrong ones? Are there different grades?
Thinking about filing/grinding a notch in them now to break clean to avoid damaging the prop.
What good are shearpins if they don't shear!

How bad is the prop? and what are you hitting? I've never had a problem
Re: Minn Kota shear pins
I've never broken one but I think your right about scoring the pin with a file so it'll break where you want. When we were up north and couldn't find shear pins we used brass brazing rod which was cheap and worked. That was on a 2 hp kicker.

The prop itself is fine as far as the blades go, it's where the pin would seat in the back of the hub that is all eaten away from the prop shaft spinning faster than the prop, with a bent shear pin.
Yeah, I think I'm going to have to score them to break in a non-destructive way.

Re: Minn Kota shear pins
I have had a lot of "Shear" pins break... but still do the job!
They break all the time in a way that they are still locked in place in the grove of the hub like a keystone... and never actually give way. I only notice when I go to take the prop off to clear any fishing line or crazy Jurassic sea weed off the shaft. Pin comes out in two pieces even though I never noticed a problem with the prop!!!
