Lowrance transducer mounting?

Post by Jason Daoust »

I've got a steeped transom so I'm reading that its better to epoxy the transducer to the fiberglass . The one that is installed now is pointed towards the front of the boat instead of the back. Is that the way there supposed to point when epoxied down? Also it's installed about 20" infront of the motor where it is almost the only open spot. So should I just remove that one and put new one there? I'm also installing structure scan which I'm wondering if there will be interference between the 2 transducers ? The 2 transducers will be on opposite sides of the engine.

Hey Jason

I personally like to have the transducer in the water instead of "thru hull"

Wou can loose your depth signal at hish speeds when it is thru hull. I dont think it matters which way you mount it ( front or rear facing) the other item you want to install may cause interference unless its over 10 feet from eachother.

I just installed a humminbird to the bow of my boat and it says in the instructions that if you are to mount a transducer to the inside of your boat the transducer should be pointing the way it would if it was mounted on the transom. I can only assume that Lowrance would recomend the same thing.

I cannot comment on the down imaging but I would assume that one would have to mounted on the transom. Hopefully someone else can chime in and let you know.

I would consider going to the Lowrance site and seeing if you can find the manual or intallation instructions. They seem to be all on there for the newer models.

Don't mount the transducer on the transom directly. Place a piece of cutting board material [3"x6"] on the transom so you only have one set of holes. You can move the transducer easily if you don't get it just right the first time.
